PCWA Volunteer Opportunities

Outdoor work

1. Clean-up Maintenance: PCWA has four outdoor sites where we have removed invasive plants and replanted with natives.  The yearly clean-up and maintenance are wonderful opportunities to be physical and meet people from this area.

2. Bacteria and chemical water analysis:  This is done monthly.  You would be working with a trained volunteer to learn how to test and read the results.  Those results go into a database that is shared with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection Agency, as they do not test or monitor water quality in our area.

3. Yearly visual monitoring of creek.

4. Yearly monitoring of benthic macroinvertebrates (stream bottom-dwelling critters).

5. Storm drain stenciling.

Festivals

This is also a great opportunity to be outdoors and meet people.  Manning a PCWA booth requires handing out brochures, signing up potential members, and/or using simple demonstration models to show how watersheds work, how to minimize nonpoint source pollution, and where our water resources come from.
